About Veteran College Grants

My name is Larry Salazar, and I am a proud U.S. Navy veteran who served our country in wartime, protecting our nations freedom.

Today, I continue that service in a unique way — by standing up for veterans who are fighting a different kind of battle: the struggle to afford a college education for their spouses and children. For many veteran families, the struggle is real, even with existing benefits.

My mission is simple — to give veteran families the opportunity to pursue higher education and build a better future.

That is why I founded Veteran College Grants (VCG) — one of the only veteran organizations dedicated exclusively to providing educational grants and scholarships for the entire veteran family.

Leadership & Vision

Veteran College Grants (VCG) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to expanding educational access for U.S. veterans and their families. Founded by U.S. Navy veteran Larry Salazar, VCG was created to fill a critical gap: even with existing military benefits, many veteran households still face significant financial barriers when pursuing college or trade school.

Our mission is to bridge that gap and empower veterans, spouses, and children to build strong futures through education.

VCG is built on transparency, integrity, and responsible stewardship. Every donor contribution is used to directly support educational grants and programs that create meaningful impact for veteran families.

We commit to full financial transparency by publicly sharing our annual IRS Form 990 and operating with the highest ethical standards. Supporters can give with confidence, knowing their generosity is handled with care and intention.

Meet the Team

Amy Salazar

Amy Salazar is a founding partner and the (COO) Chief Operations Officer of Veteran College Grants. She leads the development and implementation of the organization’s grant and scholarship programs, guiding mission strategy and ensuring seamless program execution. Amy also oversees all grant and scholarship awards and serves as the primary liaison for organizational planning.

As an active member of the National Scholarship Providers Association, Amy is committed to honoring the service and sacrifice of veterans and their families by expanding their access to meaningful educational opportunities.

Beyond her work with Veteran College Grants, Amy has owned and managed an assisted living facility and currently serves as the Women’s Ministry Director at her church in Friendswood, Texas. She lives in South Houston with her husband, Larry, and their daughter.

Larry Salazar

Larry Salazar is the founder and (CEO) Chief Executive Officer of Veteran College Grants. He is a U.S. Navy Veteran who served as a hospital corpsman on the USS Rentz FFG-46 during the Persian Gulf War. Larry left eh Military after 4 years with a n "Honorable Discharge" and continued his medical career for 25 years. Larry is a lifelong servant leader who brings decades of leadership and management skills. Driven by faith and a deep commitment to supporting military families, Larry leads VCG with a mission to ensure veterans, spouses, and children all have access to life-changing educational opportunities. His vision is clear - to elevate the future of every veteran family one grant at a time.
